Laura Connor. BAgrSc
My name is Laura Connor. I grew up with a love of all animals and always wanted to work full time with them. I began working in the equine sector, preparing animals for competition and assisting at events. I continued then to work in large scale dairy, sheep, beef and swine enterprises. In 2006 I travelled to Solingen Germany, where I worked for Lohf Quarter horses. I also gained two summers veterinary experience working in one of Navan's top veterinary clinics.
In 2011, I graduated with an honors BAgrSc in Animal Science, from University College Dublin. During my time in UCD I studied modules such as, animal nutrition, animal physiology, animal health & welfare and animal behavior. As part of my studies I completed two seasons of lambing with Lyons Estate, research facility. In my second year the lambing records were used as the first year of information for the Sheep Ireland 'Lamb Plus' scheme.
In 2011, I completed a Veterinary Support Assistant course and received a level 3 NCFE Award certificate of achievement. This course covered topics such as canine physiology, health & safety, infection control and veterinary pharmacy.
In September 2011 I undertook a six week veterinary internship with Wildlife Vets. A veterinary practise and research facility close to the Kruger National Park in South Africa. During my stay I assisted with the capture and de-horning of black and white Rhinoceroses, capture and transport of free roaming African Buffalo, anaesthesia and blood collection of over 50 crocodiles, treatment and care of pets from the neighbouring towns. I also received lectures on the treatment and care of injured animals, including a two day Chemical Immobilization Course for veterinarians.
I have always been drawn back to small animal work, particularly dogs and I have a love for all breeds big and small. I strive to ensure all animals receive the best treatment and care, as if they were my own.
